The 2025 horse racing season is reaching its conclusion following a dramatic 12-month campaign.

The Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar produced some of the most memorable moments of the year, with none being as iconic as Forever Young becoming the first Japanese-trained winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

Assessing the leaders at the conclusion of the calendar year could be vitally important before making selections on the markets available in TwinSpires.com.

But, which jockeys have ranked as the most successful throughout 2025?

Irad Ortiz Jr

Few jockeys have a better reputation for riding winners at a consistently high level than Irad Ortiz Jr. The jockey is a five-time Eclipse Award winner, and he looks set to end the current season with the highest earnings in the United States.

Ortiz has accumulated a staggering 332 winners from 1,541 rides, winning over $39 million in prize money, and striking at a 22% rate.

This season marks the most prize money won by Ortiz in a single season, with high profile victories coming aboard White Abarrio and Shisospicy in the Pegasus World Cup and Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, respectively.

Ortiz also landed two further successes in the season-ending event, landing the Juvenile Turf Sprint with Cy Fair and the Sprint with Bentornato.

Flavien Prat

Flavien Prat has enjoyed a season to remember in 2025, riding 289 winners and striking at 25%. No jockey in the top ten of the highest earners recorded a better win-rate in the U.S. this season.

Overall, Prat amassed over $38 million in prize money, marking his best season to date. The jockey thrived in some of the biggest races on the schedule, landing the Whitney Stakes with Sierra Leone, and the Belmont Oaks with Fionn.

He would also achieve notable victories at the Breeders’ Cup, taking victory aboard Nysos in the Dirt Mile and Splendora in the Filly & Mare Sprint.

His dedication to his craft was evident across the two-day meet at Del Mar, but he would also make history at Aqueduct just 24 hours after winning the Dirt Mile after landing victories in seven races on the card at Aqueduct. In doing so, he became the first jockey to ever ride seven winners in one day at a track in New York.

Jose Ortiz

Jose Ortiz was the only other rider in the United States to hit over $30 million in prize money in 2025. His accumulation of $33 million this season bested his previous best season-end total of $27 million, which was set in 2019.

The Puerto Rican jockey has long been a standout rider in the world’s biggest races, having landed victories in two previous Triple Crown races.

This season, he continued to showcase his ability in Grade One company, landing the Arkansas Derby with Sandman and the Alabama Stakes with Nitrogen.

The latter would be his highest earner of the season, with Ortiz winning just under $2 million aboard the superstar filly. Other notable graded winners were achieved aboard Quietside in the Fantasy Stakes, and Time to Dazzle in the Franklin Stakes. Hope Road and Kilwin were other big earners for the jockey in 2025.

Oisin Murphy

Over in the United Kingdom, there have been few better performing jockeys than Oisin Murphy. The 30-year-old was crowned Champion Jockey for the fifth time at the conclusion of the flat season, retaining the title that he had won in 2024.

As well as winning the season title, Murphy finished second in the rankings at Royal Ascot in 2025, recording five victories. During the season, Murphy accumulated over £6 million in earnings, striking at a remarkable 23% rate in Great Britain.

His top performing horse during the season was Never So Brave for trainer Andrew Balding, who landed the City of York Stakes. Murphy would also claim Group honors aboard Asfoora in the Nunthorpe Stakes.

However, he was unable to add to his wins at the Breeders’ Cup, finishing ninth aboard See The Fire in the Filly & Mare Turf.

Ryan Moore

Largely considered to be the world’s best jockey, Ryan Moore ranked among the leaders in terms of prize money in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

The Coolmore stable jockey won over £5.5 million in earnings, despite missing the second half of the season due to injury. Moore’s biggest wins would come aboard Minnie Hauk, winning the Epsom and Irish Oaks.

However, he would later miss out on the rides on the filly in the Arc and Breeders’ Cup Turf. Moore would also be aboard Delacroix for the runner’s success in the Coral-Eclipse Stakes.

Other major victories in the saddle came in the Nassau Stakes and Yorkshire Oaks. Back to full fitness, the jockey will be an important member of the Aidan O’Brien stable ahead of big targets in 2026.
